Panourgias Papaioannou started working as a research assistant at the Professorship of Higher Education in April 2022. He is also conducting his doctoral thesis at the professorship on the topic "The impact of digital technologies on academic staff appraisal systems".

Panourgias Papaioannou studied English language and American studies at the University of Athens and at Freie Universität Berlin. He worked for the European Parliament before completing his Erasmus Mundus in Research and Innovation in Higher Education (MARIHE) at the Danube University Krems and the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. Before joining TU Dortmund he worked for the European Association of Institutional Research (EAIR), the WPZ Research and the Athens University of Economics and Business. His work focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship and digitalization of higher education institutions.
