In their open access article “The Unexpected Rise of Private Higher Education in Germany”, Anna-Lena Rose and Prof. Liudvika Leišytė describe the development of private universities in Germany, thereby publishing initial findings from the BMFTR project ELLpH – Influencing Factors of New Teaching and Learning Concepts at Private Higher Education Institutions.

In Western European countries such as Germany, which have a long tradition of public higher education, the private higher education sector has grown at an unexpectedly rapid pace over the past decade. The authors describe this development and provide insight into the governance of private universities.
