Internationalization, Diversity, and Institutional Autonomy

In a time shaped by climate change, demographic change, and the growing use of AI, the congress explored possible, desirable, and feared futures of society and brought together researchers from across the field.
Prof. Liudvika Leišytė contributed to these discussions with her paper “Internationalisation, Diversity, and Institutional Autonomy in Dutch Higher Education”. The study examined how internationalization and diversity in Dutch higher education were shaped by political and institutional developments between 2022 and 2026. It highlighted the role of institutional autonomy in responding to political pressures, as well as the contributions of university leaders and academic grassroots initiatives.
The presentation was a part of the ad hoc group AdH24: Diversität und Internationalisierung an Hochschulen: Kopplungen, Spannungen, Gegenbewegungen, organized by Dr. Daniel Schumann and Prof. Dr. Kathrin Zippel.
