In the newly published Nomos Handbook on Higher Education Research, Dr. Johanna Witte (visiting scholar at our professorship) describes the current state of research on key features of the German higher education system.

In her chapter “Das deutsche Hochschulsystem”, Johanna Witte focuses on research into the federal structure and the distinction between the two types of higher education institutions: universities and universities of applied sciences. In addition, dual and private higher education institutions of various kinds are becoming increasingly important. She also provides an overview of important panel studies that influence higher education research in Germany.
