The publication “Fostering Students’ Diversity Competence through Problem-based Learning and Hackathons” by Nina Bieling, Sude Pekşen, and Liudvika Leišytė is published in the Proceedings of the IIE’s 2nd International Conference on Teaching and Learning (2025) published by The Independent Institute of Education (IIE).

In their paper, the authors explore how diversity competence can be fostered in a higher education context through problem-based learning (PBL) and hackathons. The study is based on the DiveHack project, which is being carried out at the Department of Business and Economics at TU Dortmund University and is funded by the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre, Freiraum 2025.

In addition to a theoretical classification of diversity and diversity competence in the German context, the paper presents the innovative didactic concept and methodological approach, outlines key findings, and discusses implications for higher education teaching.
