How Can Innovative Hybrid Teaching Formats Foster Student Agency and Learning?
In the STARK project (Students as Agents of Change), two seminars in the Bachelor's degree program in Business Administration and Economics were extensively redesigned. A flipped classroom format was used to provide a hybrid setting in which students worked independently on research projects.
At the Digital Teaching Day 2023 at TU Dortmund University, the Professorship of Higher Education will present some key results of the project at the poster session:
- How did the new format affect student learning?
- What difficulties arose from the active role of students as researchers?
- How did the students rate the hybrid format?
With the flipped classroom approach, students took a more active role in their learning process, which enabled self-directed learning and a better understanding of the subject matter. Through research-based learning and group work, students were empowered to think critically and solve problems, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
To ensure the effectiveness of these teaching methods, student surveys were conducted at the beginning and at the end of the semester. This allowed to identify gaps in knowledge and areas in need of improvement.
